Core Architecture & Mathematical Formula
Optimal Alarm = Bedtime + (5 Cycles × 90m) + 15m (Sleep Latency)
The brain moves from N1 (Light) to N2 to N3 (Deep) and finally into REM sleep, completing the loop roughly every 90 minutes. Interrupting the N3 (Deep) phase results in severe disorientation upon waking.
Best Practices & Essential Guidelines
- Calculate Backwards from Wake Time: If you must wake up for work at 6:30 AM, calculate backwards. Six cycles (9 hours) means a 9:15 PM bedtime. Five cycles (7.5 hours) means a 10:45 PM bedtime.
- Maintain a Strict Wake Anchor: The human circadian rhythm is dictated by the sun. Waking up at the exact same time every single day (even on weekends) is infinitely more important than going to bed at the exact same time.
- Account for Latency: If you get into bed at 10:00 PM, you do not fall asleep at 10:00 PM. The average human takes 15 minutes to transition to sleep (latency). If you do not factor this in, your math will be 15 minutes misaligned.
